Enjoy some live art and take advantage of the 15% discount on all canvas sizes. Location: Thumbprint Gallery 920 Kline Street La Jolla, CA 92037 TPG: What inspired your latest body of work? JC: I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to my work but these latest works were primarily focused on just letting go. Trying not be perfect or anything, just letting go the fear of being vulnerable. So why not do it on this first solo show? Fuck it, I might not be happy with my pieces technically but I achieved my personal goal by putting my art out there with no insecurities for the public to see especially when amazing work is being shown in the next room by local artists I admire. TPG: What's the meaning behind the show's title? JC: There is no meaning behind Fragments other than naming it based on the concept of fusing gestural line work with tight paintings. It’s just that I deviated from this concept and went tribal and kept the name. TPG: What was the biggest challenge in producing work for your show? JC: The toughest part was actually trying to make this series visually cohesive. All pieces were done freestyle, no planning, no thumbnail sketches. It's all live and dirty. Look closely, it's all there, mistakes and everything. It's personal as it gets. TPG: What are you currently working on? JC: Currently, I am working on a skateboard for the upcoming show Deck the Walls on Dec 22nd. Other than that, looking forward to be collaborating with some artists next year. TPG: What do you hope people take away from viewing your work?
JC: Let it be a reminder that if you have a passion of some sorts, don’t stop doing it. Yeah, it's cliche but there’s truth to it. You’ll never know where it will take you. Be humble and don’t think you’re a rockstar. |
